That gets to me to this day, since to be a legally and medically defined woman you do have to have a (even a surgically created) vagina. Maybe not in your friend’s eyes, or when you walk down the street but to legally be a woman and to be recognized in your important matters as one, vagina ownership is the #1 thing. These tumblr feminists are going to be the death of me.
I hate the phrase “sex change”. When someone says that a person has had a sex change or whatever, it makes it sound like the person did it as a purely cosmetic thing. It puts transition on the same level as a nose job or a nip/tuck. It makes it sound like transition is a thing done on a whim, like “Y’know, I’m looking for a change in my life. I think I’ll get a sex change.”
Transition really isn’t like that. Trans* people don’t do this on a whim. Every day is a struggle for us. For me, it hurts to go through the day and be seen as something other than Alyssa, the girl I know I am. I’m not trying to change my sex, I’m trying to fix my sex. I just want the pain to stop, and “sex change” makes it sound like there’s no pain and I’m just a crazy person.
